About
Professional experience
I established my private practice in Canberra in 2008 and have worked with a diverse range of client groups throughout my career, including health practitioners, police officers, and military personnel.
In early 2022, I transitioned my practice to Melbourne/Naarm and took on an additional role with the University of Melbourne Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS) until the end of 2024. At CAPS, I supervised early-career psychologists, delivered training and consultancy, and provided mental health care and trauma psychotherapy to staff, as well as domestic and international students.
My role at CAPS also included a dedicated position within the LGBTIQA+ counselling team, and the delivery of on-site services for students in the Victorian College of the Arts and the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.
I’ve also had the privilege of working at the Australian National University (ANU) student counselling service, a regional adult specialist mental health service, mental health community support services, and in a volunteer counselling role at Thorne Harbour Health supporting peers in the LGBTIQA+ community.
Qualifications
I completed a Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) degree at the ANU between 2005 and 2011, and also hold a Bachelor of Science from the ANU (1999–2002) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology from the University of Wollongong (2003).
Professional development
My professional development in somatic psychology commenced in 2010 and led to a certification in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy in 2016.
During this period I also trained in Trauma-Informed Stabilisation Treatment and various interpersonal neurobiology approaches, building on earlier studies in EMDR (Level 1), and other cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic, and mindfulness-based modalities.
More recently, I’ve been continuing my ongoing training in a somatic movement education program that I commenced in 2019, while developing my supervision and teaching skills, cultivating my practice of culturally responsive mental health care, and learning the art and science of Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR).
I began my DBR training in 2021 and have completed Levels 1, 2, and 3. Additionally, I’ve participated in a DBR Alexander Technique (DBR-AT) interweave group (2021–2024) and have assisted in several online and in-person trainings in Australia.
My professional development has been further supported by foundational workshops in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, along with personal practices of yoga, ecosomatics, dance, and meditation.
Lineage
Teachers who have been particularly influential in my development include Andy Harkin, Frank Corrigan, Olive Bieringa, and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen.
I'm also grateful to Sandra Kay Lauffenburger, who first introduced me to somatic movement and psychotherapy during my early career.
Personal interests and identity
Beyond work, I’m a member of a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu club, have a passion for the arts, and enjoy swimming, cycling, studying Vietnamese, and spending time with my partner Chung (he/they).
