About
Professional Experience
I established my private practice in Kamberri/Canberra in 2008 and have worked with a wide range of client groups across my career, including health practitioners, police officers, foreign affairs workers, and military personnel.
In early 2022, I moved to Naarm/Melbourne and took on an additional role with the University of Melbourne Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS) until the end of 2024.
At CAPS, I supervised intern and registrar psychologists, delivered training and consultancy, and provided culturally responsive counselling, trauma psychotherapy, and group programs for domestic and international students. I also held a dedicated position within the LGBTIQA+ counselling team and, in 2023 and 2024, worked 1 to 2 days a week at the university’s Southbank campus, providing community-embedded mental health care for students within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music.
From 2022 to 2023, I also had the privilege of supporting Melbourne’s broader LGBTIQA+ community in a year-long volunteer peer counsellor role at Thorne Harbour Health.
Earlier in my career, I held various clinical and non-clinical roles at the Australian National University (ANU) student counselling service, a regional adult specialist mental health service, and two mental health community support services.
Qualifications
I completed a Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) degree at the ANU between 2005 and 2011, and also hold a Bachelor of Science from the ANU (1999–2002) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology from the University of Wollongong (2003).
Professional Development
My professional development in somatic psychology commenced in 2010 and led to a certification in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy in 2016.
During this period, I also trained in Trauma-Informed Stabilisation Treatment and various psychodynamic and interpersonal neurobiology approaches, building on prior studies in trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Level 1 Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
More recently, I've been continuing my ongoing studies in a somatic movement educator program that I began in 2019, while learning the art and science of Deep Brain Reorienting and developing my competencies in culturally safe and responsive practice, relational approaches to clinical supervision, and small group teaching.
Deep Brain Reorienting
I completed DBR Level 1, 2, and 3 trainings across 2021 and 2022, and participated in a DBR-Alexander Technique interweave group from 2021 to 2024. I’ve also assisted in several online and in-person trainings, and am in the process of transitioning into the newly developed DBR Practitioner and Consultant credentials with other Australian-based senior assistants in consultation with Dr Frank Corrigan.
Contemplative Care
Foundational workshops on the principles of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, along with contemplative practices cultivated through yoga, meditation, qigong, ecosomatics, and dance, have also shaped my treatment philosophy and enriched my professional journey.
Lineage
Other teachers in addition to Frank Corrigan who have been particularly influential in my development include Dr Andy Harkin, Olive Bieringa, and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen.
I'm also grateful to Sandra Kay Lauffenburger, who first introduced me to somatic approaches to movement and psychotherapy during personal therapy sessions across my early career.
Personal Interests and Identity
Beyond work, I’m a member of a Budo academy, have a deep respect for the arts, and enjoy swimming, cycling, spending time with my partner Chung (he/they), and studying Vietnamese language.
